Peter and Kristie's Farewell Visit
Posted on 16 May 2021 by Steve Markham
Peter, Kristie, Brooke, and Charlotte are moving to Arizona. They came up this weekend for a farewell visit, and we had a BLAST!
The girls played very well together the whole time.
The fun started Friday night at Lana's. We had pizza and sides (and cream soda, yum!) in her backyard. Charlotte's birthday was last week, so we had conecakes to celebrate.
Saturday morning we went for a hike on the Thacher Escarpment (where the Markhams have been a few times recently).
Charlotte *loves* Camille. Everyone loves Camille, naturally, but Charlotte really loves Camille.
The view was beautiful, but there were ants where we ate lunch. Oh well.
I strung up my hammock for a quick nap, but didn't enjoy it nearly as much as the next group that laid in it.
Saturday dinner was beef stroganoff in Nancy's backyard.
Sterling is adorable, and was appropriately adored all afternoon.
Sterling also loves Camille, which is surprising since he can hardly tolerate anyone else besides Lana.
Lana recently picked up a remote controlled airplane at a garage sale. It was tricky to fly, but very fun to watch.
Saturday night we had a cousins campout in our backyard. Peter
slept was in the tent with the girls. Andy tented with Drew and Lewis. How shabby of me was it that I was in my comfy hammock by myself?
Sunday started with buttermilk whole wheat pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, and some sugary cereal for dessert, while we waited for a couple of mothers and a younger sibling to arrive.
The kids used the buckets from the ping pong table to beef up the ground-level of the fort.
Neither Lana nor Devin were around to object to a little brain-rotting, so Lewis introduced Drew to the wonders of Minecraft.
Despite an accidental collision Friday night in the bounce house, the trampoline was very popular on Sunday. I'm pretty sure Sterling is looking through to the grass, and not simply face-planting after a bad bounce:)
Lewis helped grandpa climb the tree in our front yard.
Grandpa played tag with the boys on the trampoline. He's almost 70, but he's still quick!
The girls did some yard cooking in their kitchenette's new location by the corner of the house. It was making it tough for Kyle to mow, and/or crowding our front walk. This spot is shadier, too, which was relevant on this very sunny Sunday.
Around noon we moved all the chairs to the shade in the front yard. We had a lovely lunch of chicken salad, egg salad, bread, croissants, rolls, various fruits and veggies, and even some cheese curls (yum!). Great grandpa got dropped off after church by the young couple who have now moved into his basement. The food and conversation were both excellent, as evidenced by the fact that
none of us thought to take out our phones and snap a picture.
Kyle and Nancy gave us an impromptu performance. It was absolutely delightful.

This clip captures it pretty authentically--the performance wasn't perfect, since they are still learning to play it together, and Kyle is still working on some of the trickier parts.
After the cello recital, Lana, Drew, Sterling, Andy, Nancy, and Clyde all departed. That left four grownups chatting in the front yard, and 6 kids playing happily inside. Again, two hours of conversation, zero pictures to show for it:)
We'll miss the PKCrapos when they move far away, but we're very happy for the excuse to have such a fun weekend.
