Alan invited us to his camp as he does every year in late Spring or early Summer. Barbara said there would be a new activity this year, a skillet throw. Since Alan had no anvils at his camp, we let the men compete in the skillet throw, too. More on that in a bit.
I drove the kids over Friday night. Janet planned to join us in the morning with Clyde. Lewis and Adele were in the 4-man Gunnison tent, and Kyle, Camille, and I were in hammocks. We had kabobs and lots of sides and desserts. It was yummy, and the only picture I took the whole evening was that one up above.
Overnight things got very windy. Turns out Drew does a pretty good Lewis impression at 1am. Lewis woke up hungry so I got him a leftover angel biscuit around 6am and then snuggled in my hammock with him until Kyle got up to play with him. I think I finally got up around 8am. By then, Sterling had arrived.
After a breakfast of egg McMaughans, it was time for the skillet throw. If you didn’t watch the video above all the way through, here’s Clyde demonstrating the general idea:
Janet won the women’s skillet toss.
Andy eked out a victory over Phil for the men’s competition.
After the official tournament ended, Alan tried a side-handed toss. The skillet skipped like a stone on one of the measurement markers and went past the end of the rope. 70’ was the record for the day.
Then we did a short walk along some wetlands while Andy and Alan installed a new bench.
Thanks Alan!
