Bennett Lake Solo Trip

At Janet’s encouragement, I took off Monday afternoon for a solo trip to Bennett/Middle/Murphy lakes. I have never hiked that trail all the way to the end, until this trip.

It rained a little Monday evening, so I camped after just a mile or so at Bennett. My pack weight was about 25 lbs. I really like my current setup. The drizzle was enough that I cooked dinner and breakfast under my fly, and had all of my stuff right under the hammock while I slept.

Tuesday morning I woke up at 6 and was on the trail a little before 7. It was about 13 miles of hiking, plus a long chat with the only other person I saw, Patrick, a recently retired guy with lots of interesting stories and suggestions of other cool places to try out. I must have gotten back to the car before 1, because I was home by 2pm.

I’m listening to a very long Tom Clancy book, so I spent most of the hiking time with earbuds in. Family trips are more fun, but I do hope I get to do several solo trips this year. They are their own sort of vacation.
